Angel Food Ministries Update

We picked up our first order today from one of our local host sites, Christian Praise Center , in Canton, Georgia. The site was nicely organized and everyone was very friendly and helpful. We were in and out with our groceries in less than 20 minutes. They even helped us to the car with two of our boxes.

We purchased the signature box, the seniors/convenience box and the box of fresh fruits and veggies. Everything looks great. The food appears to be excellent quality and there were actually four strip steaks and an apple pie along with everything else in the signature box this month. All in all it is excellent value for the money.

The senior meals which I was interested in particularly look really nice. They come frozen and it is recommended that you defrost before reheating. I'm hoping this is a nutritious alternative to frozen meals and fast food on the run. The proof will be in the eating!!

The fruits and vegetables are a fresh, very nice assortment and come with a recipe sheet for some of the produce for the month. They are offering a latin assortment of fruits and vegetable next month and we may just try it as well.

This is kind of “off subject" but I came across something that I would like to share it with everyone.

With the economy the way it is and people struggling to make ends meet, Angel Food Ministries is absolutely heaven sent.

Headed by Pastors Joe and Linda Wingo, this is a wonderful outreach program that provides quality food at much reduced prices. They have standard boxes, senior citizen/convenience meals to heat and eat boxes, boxes for those with food allergies and specialty boxes of meats, seafood and fruits and vegetables. There are no income or eligibility requirements to participate and no limit on the number of boxes you may purchase.

We just placed our first order at our local host site and will pick it up on Saturday morning. I’ll let you know how it is.

5 Steps - 15 Minutes to Get Organized and Move Forward

I have been struggling with my work of late and it has melted down into almost complete disorganization over the last few weeks. I tend to multi task to the ultimate degree and I have just about shot myself in the foot this time. Inventory is everywhere and I am frozen in my tracks as to where to pick up and go forward.

The crowning touch was a hard drive failure on the laptop that I used for my everyday doings. I had been lax about doing a back up and lost almost two months of pictures, research, class notes and references from various online classes and lord know what else.

My new laptop, an Acer Aspire 6930, came equipped with Windows Vista which I do not like at all. I am slowly learning my way around it but I really did not need one more thing to do.

My agenda for the coming days will be these 5 steps:

5 Steps - 15 Minutes to Get Organized and Move Forward

List the tasks to be done in order of importance - this does NOT have to be perfect. You can change the order as you go along if necessary.
Select the most important item of each task - again - we're not looking for perfection here just a place to start.
Set a timer for 15 minutes and work as fast as you can on the first task - stop when the timer goes off
Continue with each task working for only 15 minutes on the most important part of each.
Reward yourself and do something creative for 15 minutes

Rinse and repeat ..... it is surprising how much you can get done in 15 minutes and the object of the exercise is to get started and get motivated to move forward again.

Moving Along to Bonanzle

There's a new selling venue out there that shows great promise and I've been busy moving into my new Acworth Attic booth there. They went live last September as I understand it and are growing by leaps and bounds. I discovered them in January and promptly signed on. I spent a bit of time getting to know my way around and had my grand opening on March 1.

It's Bonanzle - Find everything but the ordinary. Each booth has a live chat, the forums are filled with friendly, helpful people and the site is just extraordinary. Bill and Mark the visionaries behind this new phenomena are often seen around the forums answering questions.

Come on by and have a look - you'll love it too. You'll find lots of great bargains and wonderful sellers. You can make a wish list, a hand picked list of some of your favorite things, a save it for later list, tag favorite items in seller's booths, favorite the booths you like best and be part of a great new community.

Craft Heaven

It's windy today !! Makes it feel colder than it is.
Noisy, too, as all the acorns drop from the oak trees.
I've been having a great time sorting through my latest find.
Four large boxes of craft magazines, leaflets, instruction books, odds and ends of yarn ~ even a kit or two. There's
knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, needlepoint, embroidery,
smocking, sewing and probably some I haven't come across yet.
All are vintage and fun to look at. I wish I could knit fast enough
to make some of these sweaters!!

Art Books

I love this time of year with the changing color of the leaves and the smell of fireplaces burning. The crisper, cooler weather is wonderful after the heat and humidity of a southern summer. I even like the rainy days. It's a perfect time to think about passions and activities to pursue during the colder winter months. Books can be just the ticket - whether it's a good read, inspirational, self help or learning something new.

I also love books of any kind - but especially art and craft books and cookbooks. This is a lot of art books that I picked up recently. These are great books offering a variety of drawing and painting instruction. Most are like new.

Off to South Carolina

I set my alarm for 5:15 on Friday planning for us all to be on the road by 6am. Somehow the alarm got turned off and I never got up until 6:30. By the time we all (my husband, my granddaughter, Jessie the dog and me) got on the road it was 7:30 and in the middle of rush hour traffic. Around Atlanta that is definitely not fun. But we were all in high spirits looking forward to our visit and treasure hunting. Jessie, our adopted dog, sure enjoyed himself - all dressed up in his red, white and blue bandanna !

We arrived in Anderson at just about 10:00 am and my brother met us at the first sale to save time- high prices - but I did pick up a few things. After that we hit all the thrift stores and found a few more things - I don't think there's any home runs in the bunch but you never know. We finally arrived at my brother's house around 5 pm. very tired. He has two roosters and two hens that someone dropped off in his yard. They are fun to watch.

This morning we went to several yard sales and picked up a few more things. By noon it was getting warm and we were all hot and tired so we called it a day and headed back to my brother's house. After visiting for a while longer we headed home. Got the van unpacked but was too tired to unpack all our goodies.

Chessie

I found this great cup the other day - I believe it is a piece of railroad china from the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. It has a picture of Chessie who was long the corporate symbol of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad and is marked on the bottom O.P. Co. Syracuse China Patented.

An endearing kitten, she is loved by folks the world over. It is one of my favorite kitten images - I actually did a crewel embroidery for my daughter many years ago when she was a little girl.

Off on a Jaunt

We'll be heading out Friday morning on a trip to Anderson, South Carolina combining a little business and pleasure with a visit to my brother and cruising the yard sales and thrift stores in his area. Should be lots of fun! We haven't seen each other in a long time.

A blog?? Who'd of thought? Setting this up was pretty easy and kind of fun - even for a grandma. Now I just have to decide what to write about that might be of the least little bit of interest to my readers.........I think that's probably the hard part.

I will be bringing you items of interest as I search for treasures for Acworth Attic!
